Job summary

Advocate Health in the United States seeks a phlebotomy technician to collect blood and process specimens in a fast-paced clinical lab. You will perform venipuncture and capillary puncture, prepare and transport specimens, and register patients while maintaining safety and regulatory standards.

The role requires accuracy, teamwork, and training of new staff, with opportunities to work with hospital information systems.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform minor tests.
• Knowledge of lab equipment and testing to operate, clean, and sterilize.
• Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with staff.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Collects and/or processes patient blood by venipuncture/capillary puncture timely and accurately.
• Processes nonblood patient specimens in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Assists in specimen preparation, receipt, and transport of patient specimens.
• Performs patient registration.
• Provides phone support for patient care areas in a polite and supportive manner.
• Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems.
