Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. You will verify patient identity, perform venipuncture, collect specimens across age groups, and ensure proper labeling for testing.

You’ll also handle basic testing under CLIA guidelines and assist with billing, inventory, and data entry in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will contribute to quality control, support proficiency testing, and train staff and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing while delivering

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety and assesses reactions to specimen procurement.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, resolves identification issues.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines per policy.
• Answers calls, assists with inventory, and supports Billing and other functions.
• Accepts specimens, tracks transport, and processes specimens for testing with proper ID.
• Orders and verifies test requests and runs quality control checks.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the system and supports proficiency testing.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Provides care appropriate to patients’ age and developmental needs.
