Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician IHR to support nursing staff with basic patient care, vital signs, and daily living activities in a hospital setting.

Under the supervision of an RN, you will assist with monitoring, documentation, and unit workflow while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Nursing students or CNAs/CMAs/EMTs with CPR‑BLS are welcome to apply, with phlebotomy experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation, or must be certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
• CPR – Basic Life Support certification via American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating).
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stressful situations.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit tasks as needs change.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights professionally and communicates information to staff/family/patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the charge RN/assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
