Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (PRN) for the Dillwyn Correctional Center. This wage position pays $37.00/hr and is limited to 1,500 hours per agency in the 12-month period, with no state benefits. Availability for varying hours/days/locations is required.

Minimum qualifications include an unrestricted Virginia LPN license, nursing care knowledge, and BLS certification at hire. Applications are submitted electronically via the Commonwealth system.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Virginia LPN license (unrestricted).
• Working knowledge of practical/general nursing care.
• Ability to follow instructions and administer care.
• BLS certification for health care providers required on hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based nursing care under RN direction.
• Screen sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and BLS as needed.
• Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff to aid treatment planning.
• Record pertinent information in medical records and coordinate with other departments.
• Promote continued competence through education/certification in correctional nursing.
• Be available to work hours/days/locations as assigned to meet institutional needs.
• Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet needs.
• Wage position limited to 1,500 hours per 12-month period; no state benefits.
