Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Valid Virginia LPN license or multi-state compact license; NCLEX-PN if not yet licensed.
• Working knowledge of practical/general nursing care.
• Ability to screen complaints and refer to appropriate medical staff.
• Ability to document, provide first aid, and follow provider orders.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and administer nursing care.
• BLS certification through AHA/ARC required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Screen for sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid as needed.
• Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff to aid treatment planning.
• Record all pertinent information in the medical record and interact with other departments as needed.
• Promote continued competence through education and correctional nursing standards.
• Work hours, days and locations as assigned and be able to provide coverage as needed.
• Assignments to other duties or locations to meet departmental needs.
• This is a wage position limited to 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period (May 1–April 30).
• Wage employment resets May 1; limited to 29 hours per week on average over 12 months.
