Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license.
• Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
• Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
• Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments.
• Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Screen sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
• Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff and assist in planning treatment.
• Record all pertinent information into the medical record and coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Encourage ongoing education/certification in correctional nursing and adapt to assignments as needed to meet institutional needs
