Job summary

Valar Atomics in Torrance, CA seeks a Principal Software Engineer to own the architectural direction of the company’s telemetry, streaming, and simulation platforms. You will collaborate with reactor and manufacturing teams to design scalable, auditable software that powers high-rate data capture and enterprise systems.

You will set technical direction, lead reviews, and mentor engineers while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and high-quality software delivery across teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software experience with ownership of a platform or major system.
• Experience designing and operating high-volume telemetry or time-series systems.
• Experience with streaming architectures and data pipelines (Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis, Flink, etc.).
• Experience building enterprise and engineering software: full-stack services and web interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of Valar's software platform across telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems.
• Design high-volume telemetry ingestion with accurate timestamps, units, quality, and ordering.
• Architect the streaming backbone for analytics, simulation, monitoring, and enterprise consumption.
• Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and set engineering practices for a regulated environment.
