Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT, seeks a visionary Principal Transmissions Engineer to lead MSEN transmissions design, analysis and integration for advanced engine programs. This role drives gearbox architectures across spur, helical, bevel and spiral bevel gears, and presents results to customers and executive leadership.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure successful full lifecycle testing while maintaining manufacturing readiness and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8 years gear design/analysis experience.
• Advanced degree with 5 years gear design/analysis experience.
• At least 3 years of direct experience with complex Mechanical Systems hardware and gear design/manufacturing tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and presentation to multidisciplinary teams and customers.
• Design and analyze gear systems (spur, helical, bevel, spiral bevel) using automated tools, FEA, and hand calculations.
• Lead root cause investigation teams and communicate findings to leadership.
• Mentor and coach engineers to accelerate proficiency.
• Integrate complex supplier requirements with design ownership and alignment.
• Lead full lifecycle testing including test plans, instrumentation, and data reporting.
• Advance manufacturing readiness and process improvements in gear production.
• Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
