Job summary

Pratt & Whitney, part of RTX, seeks a Principal Transmissions Engineer to lead MSEN gear design and analysis for aerospace propulsion programs. You will mentor engineers, coordinate with suppliers, and drive full lifecycle testing and continuous improvement across gear types.

You will interact with program executives and global customers, applying advanced analytical tools and ensuring design integrity for high-visibility engine programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; 8 years gear design/analysis, or advanced degree with 5 years gear design/analysis.
• At least 3 years direct experience with complex Mechanical Systems hardware and gear design/manufacturing tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams to tackle MSEN transmissions top technical issues and integrate gearbox designs; present results to customers and leadership.
• Perform design/analysis on aerospace hardware across gear types using automated tools, FEA, and hand calculations.
• Spearhead root cause investigations; direct work, assign actions, and deliver findings to leadership.
• Review team members' work and mentor less experienced engineers to accelerate proficiency.
• Manage and align external suppliers' design requirements and interfaces.
• Lead full lifecycle testing including rig development, test plans, instrumentation, data processing, and reporting.
• Advance gear manufacturing readiness and improve ESW/EKS, tools, and training materials.
• Travel 10% domestically and internationally.
