Job summary

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Principal Transmissions Engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams in designing and analyzing gear systems for MSEN transmissions. You will perform gear design across spur, helical, bevel, and spiral bevel types using automated tools, FEA, and calculations, while directing root-cause investigations and collaborating with external suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with 8 years of gear design/analysis, or advanced degree with 5 years of gear design/analysis.
• At least 3 years of direct experience with complex Mechanical Systems hardware and gear design/manufacturing tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams to tackle MSEN transmissions' top technical issues and integrate gearbox designs; present results to customers and leadership.
• Perform comprehensive design and analysis on aerospace hardware across gear types using automated tools, FEA, and hand calculations.
• Spearhead transmission root cause investigations and deliver findings to engineering leadership.
• Review team members' work and guide less experienced engineers to accelerate proficiency.
• Manage external supplier requirements and align complex technical specs.
• Lead full lifecycle testing including rig development, test plans, instrumentation, data post-processing, and reporting.
• Advance gear manufacturing readiness and improve analytical tools and training materials.
