Job summary

Luxoft is seeking an Expert Forward Deployed Engineer in Irving, TX to lead hands-on engagements that improve security, release reliability, and resilience of banking applications. You will work with development teams, define remediation approaches, and implement changes to enable sustained best practices across CI/CD, observability, and modernized stacks.

The role blends senior software engineering, DevOps, SRE, and security expertise, with ~70% coding and configuration.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on software engineering in Java/JVM; actively writes and configures production code.

Responsibilities

• Lead targeted technical engagements addressing security, testing, release, resilience, and legacy technology challenges with development teams.
• Assess code, dependencies, runtime, test coverage, deployment architecture, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational risks.
• Write, debug, review, and enhance production-quality code and configuration throughout engagements.
• Define and implement modernization and remediation plans with clear priorities, dependencies, risks, and measurable outcomes.
• Develop or improve unit, integration, component, contract, and deployment tests using TDD practices.
• Drive automation testing approaches within CI/CD; implement release automation and quality gates.
• Source test data and implement secure data masking for lower environments.
• Conduct vulnerability triage, root-cause and dependency reachability analyses, remediation prioritization, secure code changes, and regression testing.
• Upgrade Java, JVM, NPM, Spring, libraries, and container platforms to supported versions.
• Establish sustainable dependency-management with continuous library updates (Renovate or similar).
• Modernize legacy apps and middleware (WebSphere/WebLogic), containerize with Docker, and support OpenShift deployments.
• Improve source control, branch management, PRs, and code review practices.
• Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for safe, repeatable releases.
• Automate installed software and environment changes using Ansible or similar tools.
• Implement secure coding patterns, secrets management, auth, authorization, and least-privilege controls.
• Introduce observability patterns: logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting, health checks.
• Enhance exception handling, diagnostics, rollback procedures, and production-validation controls.
• Design/Improve resilient deployment architectures (hot-hot cross-datacenter).
• Lead technical workshops; communicate decisions, risks, blockers, trade-offs, progress.
