Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced engineer to lead design and engineering efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on design/build and rehab projects. You will perform advanced calculations, develop standards, and mentor junior engineers while delivering solutions across multiple disciplines.

The role requires strong communication skills and proficiency with CADD and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License required
• Minimum 5 years of experience
• Strong knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc.)
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office, including Excel

Responsibilities

• Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on design/build and rehabilitation projects.
• Perform complex calculations for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems; calculations like heating/cooling loads, sizing, friction losses, hydraulics.
• Develop standards, methods, processes and procedures for reviewing, evaluating and inspecting designs.
• Determine methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and identify efficient approaches.
• Direct the workflow of junior engineers and mentor on designs and technical issues.
• Prepare technical narratives in response to RFIs.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

PE License

Minimum 5 years of experience
