Job summary

Southland Industries, a national MEP powerhouse, seeks an experienced engineer to lead and design complex HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection projects. You will perform advanced calculations, develop design standards, and guide a team on mid- to large-scale design-build efforts.

You’ll prepare narratives for RFIs, ensure code compliance, and coordinate across disciplines to optimize client solutions. The role requires a four-year engineering degree, 6+ years in the field with leadership

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License preferred.
• Minimum 6 years’ experience, including experience leading a smaller team.
• Experience leading a 10+ million dollar design build project with a DPM, APE or PE supervision.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel.
• Ability to identify design, process and equipment options that can satisfy client requirements, minimize costs and limit potential operational problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead, evaluate, design and engineer projects and systems to specification.
• Provide ongoing technical guidance and engineering issue resolution.
• Performs complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems.
• Performs complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing.
• Develops standards, methods, processes and procedures for reviewing designs.
• Directs the workflow of less-experienced engineers on assigned projects and mentors staff.
• Writes technical narratives in response to RFIs.
• Ensure designs are in compliance with engineering standards.
• Influence or lead inter-discipline coordination.
