Job summary

AeroVironment, based in California, seeks a Principal Software Engineer (Embedded) to lead development of embedded software for unmanned and robotic systems. You will design, code, test, and debug system software for flight-test devices and work with cross-functional teams to meet program requirements.

The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, software validation, and transitioning software to production and certification.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required or equivalent.
• Minimum 12 - 15 years of experience years of relevant experience.
• Experienced trouble‑shooting systems is required and is proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Visual Studio, Eclipse or similar IDE and defect tracking tools.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems.
• Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established AeroVironment tools and practices.
• Leads in writing of system requirements, system test plans, diagnostic tools, and validation testing of software; assists with hardware selection and memory/storage needs.
• Leads development of rapid prototyping and conceptual testing, estimating time to develop software and scoping depth with project management.
• Works closely with other engineering disciplines and focuses on delivering results.
