Job summary

AeroVironment seeks a Principal Software Engineer (Embedded) to lead development of unmanned and robotic systems. You will write and test software for embedded devices, participate in flight tests, and enhance efficiency, stability, and scalability of system software across prototypes and production.

You will design, develop, test, and debug software, lead requirements and validation, and collaborate with other disciplines to meet program goals while navigating tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 12–15 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL.
• Experience with Visual Studio/Eclipse and defect tracking tools.
• Experience with RS-485/RS-232/CAN/I2C/SPI/USB protocols.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Travel for testing equipment may be required.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems
• Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established tools; ensures configuration control
• Leads in writing system requirements, test plans, diagnostics, and validation testing; assists hardware selection
• Leads rapid prototyping and estimates development time to fit timelines and budgets
• Works closely with other engineering disciplines to get the job done
• Leads transition of development software to production and certification
• Develops proof of concept capability demonstrations and conducts design reviews
• Contributes to AV's software development process with quality code
• Handles significant issues requiring analysis of data and complex problems
• Performs other duties as assigned
