Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in California seeks a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of embedded software for unmanned aircraft and robotic systems. You will design, code, test, and debug software for deployment on embedded devices and flight-tested environments.

The role involves integration of sensors, hardware interaction, requirement writing, test planning, and collaboration across disciplines. Travel may be required; ITAR compliance applies.

Qualifications

• BS degree required or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• 12–15 years of relevant experience in embedded software
• Proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL
• Experience with defect tracking tools and IDEs (VS/Eclipse)
• Experience with common protocols (RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB)

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems.
• Designs software for prototypes and products using AeroVironment tools and practices.
• Ensures configuration control and management of software.
• Leads in writing system requirements, test plans, and diagnostics.
• Leads software validation testing and transition to production environments.
