Job summary

Passaic County in Paterson, NJ is seeking a Principal Engineer, Bridges within the Engineering Department to lead and supervise bridge planning, design, inspection, and construction efforts.

This role oversees consultants, coordinates construction activities, and administers state/federal funded projects; requires 7+ years of bridge experience, NJPE license a plus, Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, and strong project management and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bridge analysis, design and rehabilitation incl. design calculations and documentation
• Knowledge of NJDOT design standards, specs, and Local Aid/grant processes
• Experience with construction administration and project management practices

Responsibilities

• Reviews and approves engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents for bridge projects
• Serves as project manager for the design and construction of capital improvement projects
• Coordinates and oversees the work of consultants, contractors, and County inspection staff
• Administers grants, including application, compliance, and reporting requirements
• Performs engineering calculations and prepares technical reports and correspondence
• Conducts site visits during design and construction phases to monitor progress and resolve issues
• Coordinates with utility companies and other public/private stakeholders
• Ensures projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, schedules, and budgets
