Job summary

UL Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer - Digital AI to serve as the Global SME for Digital AI technologies, guiding UL Solutions in standards, certification, assurance, training, advisory, and assessment services across AI systems.

The role provides technical leadership for AI governance, enterprise and cloud AI, predictive and Generative AI, LLMs, and lifecycle assurance, translating emerging tech and regulatory needs into scalable offerings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years of technical experience in software platforms, cloud systems, AI/ML, cybersecurity, technology risk, model lifecycle management, digital assurance, or related domains, including 5+ years with AI technologies.
• Experience translating AI governance, model risk, and regulatory requirements into evaluation methodologies, controls, assurance frameworks, certification programs, or customer-facing services.
• Ability to evaluate AI systems for failure modes, risks, and control gaps, including model performance, transparency, traceability, explainability, reliability, robustness, human-in-the-loop controls, fairness and bias, privacy, security, accountability, and operational resilience.
• Working knowledge of AI evaluation methodologies, including benchmarking, scenario-based testing, red teaming, bias and fairness evaluation, robustness testing, model monitoring, and risk-mitigation assessments.
• Working knowledge of predictive AI/ML, Generative AI, LLMs, foundation/frontier models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, multi-agent systems, and governance risks (hallucinations, prompt injection, data leakage, model drift, unsafe actions).
• Strong presentation, technical writing, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
