Job summary

UL Solutions in Raleigh, NC seeks a Principal Engineer to lead Digital AI initiatives, serving as global subject matter expert across AI governance, enterprise and cloud AI, and generative AI. This role guides standards, certification, advisory, and assessment services across AI systems.

The role demands deep technical leadership for AI lifecycle management, risk-based evaluation, and regulatory alignment, with duties spanning model testing, bias evaluation, and governance program development,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years in software platforms, cloud, AI/ML, cybersecurity, or related tech.
• 5+ years direct experience with AI technologies.
• Translate AI governance and regulatory requirements into practical evaluation methods and programs.
• Ability to test AI systems for performance, bias, privacy, security, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for AI governance, cloud AI, and AI lifecycle assurance.
• Translate regulations and customer needs into scalable UL Solutions offerings.
• Evaluate AI systems, identify failure modes, risks, and control gaps.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to mature standards and certification programs.
