Independence Pet Holdings is seeking a Lead Data Scientist with hands-on pricing experience in P&C or pet insurance to join our R&D team. This senior individual contributor will lead pricing model development, drive analytical best practices, and serve as a pricing SME for the organization.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree and 2+ years in data science or analytics OR 4+ years in analytics.
• At least 1 year of pricing work in P&C or pet insurance.
• Strong Python and SQL for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis.
• Deep knowledge of GLMs, regression modeling, and statistical inference.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead GLM-based pricing models and related regression approaches for rate setting, segmentation, and forecasting.
• Apply machine learning techniques to improve predictive accuracy and customer insights.
• Serve as a technical lead on pricing initiatives with rigor and regulatory awareness.
• Own projects end-to-end—from scoping to delivery—managing 2–4 active initiatives.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to understand pricing, conversion, retention, and risk segmentation.
• Translate findings into clear, actionable insights for leadership across technical levels.
• Present modeling results and recommendations to senior leadership in an accessible way.
• Mentor junior data scientists and elevate data science practices across the organization.
