Job summary

Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC), a subsidiary of Independence Pet Holdings, is seeking a Lead Data Scientist with hands-on experience in P&C or Pet Insurance pricing. You will lead pricing model development, drive analytical best practices, and act as a subject matter expert in insurance pricing.

This senior role owns end-to-end projects and partners with actuarial, product, and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or related quantitative field and 2+ years in data science or analytics
• At least 1 year of experience in P&C or Pet Insurance pricing (rate modeling, GLMs, segmentation)
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis
• Deep understanding of GLMs, regression modeling, and statistical inference
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with a small, high-impact team
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Lead pricing model development and tracking using GLM-based approaches
• Apply machine learning techniques to enhance predictive accuracy and customer insights
• Serve as technical lead on pricing initiatives with methodological rigor and regulatory awareness
• Own projects end-to-end from scoping to delivery across pricing, research, and model enhancement
• Explore data to understand relationships across pricing, conversion, retention, and risk segmentation
• Present modeling results and recommendations to senior leadership clearly and concisely
• Mentor junior team members and elevate data science practices across the organization
