Job summary

GLEAMNS HUMAN RESOURCES COMMISSION, INC. seeks a dependable bus driver to transport preschool children and staff to Head Start centers daily in South Carolina. You will follow established routes, maintain vehicle safety, complete logs, and communicate rules to families.

The role requires a High School Diploma, at least two years of related experience, and a SC CDL with school bus endorsement is desirable. Ability to pass drug/alcohol testing and lift up to 50 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years related working experience.
• A valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with school bus endorsement is desirable and evidence of a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Transport children and staff to and from Head Start centers using established routes and procedures.
• Assist in the transportation of vehicles for maintenance and repair.
• Communicate effectively with parents and staff the rules and regulations as they relate to transporting children.
• Operate vehicle in a safe manner at all times, observing all traffic rules and policies/procedures of the Head Start Program.
• Inspect assigned vehicle daily to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
• Follow rules of good conduct while operating the bus and make sure passengers do the same.
• Maintain assigned vehicle in a high state of cleanliness and safety.
• Respond to emergencies in prescribed manner.
• Maintain all safety equipment in the vehicle at all times and know how to use it.
• Maintain accurate and current records on vehicle maintenance, route descriptions, accident reports, mileage logs, daily vehicle inspections and gas purchases.
• Submit reports on a timely basis.
• Understand and follow the policies of the Transportation Handbook as well as policies and procedures of GLEAMNS.
• Participate in transportation staff meetings and training workshops.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
