Job summary

GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, Incorporated seeks a dependable Bus Driver to transport Head Start children and staff safely on established routes. The role emphasizes safety, meeting regulatory requirements, and maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, adherence to rules, record-keeping, and participation in meetings and training. A high school diploma is required, with two years’ related experience and SC CDL with school bus endorsement

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the job description.
• Minimum two years related working experience.
• A valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with school bus endorsement is desirable and evidence of a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Transport children and staff to and from Head Start centers and other activities using established routes and procedures.
• Assist in the transportation of vehicles for maintenance and repair.
• Communicate effectively with parents and staff the rules and regulations as they relate to transporting children.
• Operate vehicle in a safe manner at all times, observing all traffic rules and policies/procedures of the Head Start Program.
• Inspect assigned vehicle daily to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
• Follow rules of good conduct while operating the bus and make sure passengers do the same.
• Maintain assigned vehicle in a high state of cleanliness and safety.
• Respond to emergencies in prescribed manner.
• Maintain all safety equipment in the vehicle at all times and know how to use it.
• Maintain accurate and current records on vehicle maintenance, route descriptions, accident reports, mileage logs, daily vehicle inspections and gas purchases.
• Submit reports on a timely basis.
• Understand and follow the policies of the Transportation Handbook as well as policies and procedures of GLEAMNS.
• Participate in all transportation staff meetings and training workshops.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
