The Prep/Line Cook is responsible for assisting the Chef/Cook in providing meals for campers and staff during the summer camp program. This includes assisting in preparing meals for special diets, cleaning and organizing the kitchen and appliances, general cleaning, and maintaining meal records. A primary function of this role, like all camp positions, is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest quality of service.
Pay range: $19.50 - $23.00
Dates of Employment: late May - early August (exact dates TBD)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Chef/Cook in preparing meals for 50-310 people per meal, ensuring all meals are prepared on time.
- Prepare all meals according to schedule or assignment, including measuring ingredients, washing and preparing raw foods, cutting and portioning meats, and assembling dishes.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, refrigerators, and storage areas, and ensure proper food storage and rotation.
- Support in managing special dietary requirements with accuracy, including allergies, gluten-free, and vegetarian diets.
- Assist in ensuring food availability for staff on weekends and aid in preparing and delivering pack-out/travel foods.
- In the absence of the Chef/Cook, act as the Chef/Cook under the direction of the Kitchen Manager.
- Maintain kitchen sanitation and comply with health department codes and safety standards.
- Assist in inventory management, including checking incoming supplies and storing ingredients properly.
- Report accidents or injuries and maintain punctuality and proper timecard management.
- Interact with digital systems such as WorkBright, Slack, and ADP, respecting confidentiality and embodying the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Formal Training
- High school diploma or equivalent; college or technical certification preferred.
- At least three months of food preparation or line cook experience preferred.
- Willingness to obtain SERV Safe Certification and First Aid/CPR certification.
Experience
- Minimum three months in an industrial kitchen preferred.
- Experience cooking for large groups and managing special diets preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of sanitation, safety regulations, and nutrition guidelines.
- Knowledge of food allergies and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and as part of a team under pressure.
- Excellent communication and personal hygiene habits.
Additional Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and work non-traditional hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
- Work at high altitudes (8,000-9,500 feet), with prolonged standing and exposure to heat, cold, and noise.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks such as chopping and lifting.
- Use of various kitchen equipment and tools, with safety precautions.
