Position Summary
Prep Cooks prepare the restaurant for service by ensuring that the products are prepped, stocked, and safely stored.
Major Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Read and execute all prep recipes accurately
- Prepare food according to preparation schedule, completing tasks within allotted time
- Maintain adequate knife skills
- Keep prep area clean and organized
- Keep recipe book clean and organized
- Maintain proper food storage and safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Sweep and scrub floors regularly
- Receive and store supplies properly
- Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas using hand trucks if necessary
- Execute line sweeps and trash changes as needed
- Maintain storage areas' cleanliness and organization
- Stock supplies such as food and utensils on the cook line, refrigerators, and storage areas
- Perform other duties such as cleaning and preparing foods for cooking or serving
- Follow all safety and sanitation policies
- Clock in and out as required, and take scheduled breaks
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Report to supervisors as directed
- Perform duties with urgency and uphold standards
Essential Requirements
- Skills and experience to perform job duties effectively
- Food handlers card
- Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift, walking and standing throughout
- Effective communication with team members
- Ability to read and understand recipes
- Ability to follow policies and procedures
- Capability to lift and carry racks or stacks of dishes, glassware, and utensils weighing up to 50 lbs., multiple times per shift
- Ability to lift and empty trashcans weighing up to 150 lbs. with assistance, several times per shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and lifting
- Ability to work in hot, damp environments
- Awareness of hazards such as cuts, burns, slips, and trips
- Frequent hand washing
