Job Description
This part-time/on-call kitchen helper position is responsible for maintaining sanitation standards, performing cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, and serving area located in remote camp locations.
Responsibilities
- Assist cooks and other staff, coordinating activities within the food service area.
- Maintain products at proper levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines.
- Stock food service areas with necessary products and materials.
- Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc., and organize storage areas.
- Wash objects manually or using cleaning equipment.
- Clean, sweep, wipe down all dining, kitchen, storage areas, and equipment, including floors.
- Participate in scheduled large cleaning projects.
- Remove garbage from designated areas.
- Set up, break down, and clean tables, snack bars, display cases, and serving lines.
- Occasionally prepare food items such as vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, and meats.
- Perform additional duties as assigned relevant to the department's success.
- This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a commercial kitchen or relevant vocational training demonstrating knowledge of cleaning equipment, food prep, and cleaning processes.
- Ability to obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
- Pass pre-employment requirements, including drug testing, physical and fitness assessments, and hearing tests.
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
- Ability to make decisions independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
- Willingness to live in dormitory-style accommodations and meet cleanliness standards in remote camp settings.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Adherence to all safety and sanitation regulations.
