Job Description

This kitchen helper part-time/on-call position is responsible for maintaining sanitation standards, performing cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, and serving area in remote camp locations.

Responsibilities

1. Assist cooks and others as needed and coordinate activities within a food service area.
2. Maintain a variety of products at designated levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines.
3. Stock various food service areas with products and materials.
4. Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc., and store them in an organized manner.
5. Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
6. Clean, sweep, wipe down all general dining, kitchen, storage areas, spike rooms, equipment, and floors.
7. Assist with scheduled large cleaning projects.
8. Remove garbage from assigned areas.
9. Set up, break down, and clean tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, etc.
10. Occasionally prepare food or cook items like vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.
11. Perform other duties pertinent to the department's success as assigned.
12. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• At least one year of experience in a commercial kitchen or documented vocational training demonstrating knowledge of cleaning equipment, food prep, and cleaning processes.
• Must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
• Must pass pre-employment requirements such as drug tests, physical, and hearing assessments.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team.
• Ability to make decisions independently.
• Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
• Ability to live in dormitory-style settings and meet cleanliness standards.
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations.

Additional Notes for Out-of-Area Candidates

Residing outside Anchorage and Fairbanks requires travel to these locations for pre-employment testing and training, with associated expenses borne by the employee. Flights to remote locations are also at the employee's expense.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment involves indoor/outdoor conditions, often exposed to arctic weather, with moderate to loud noise levels. The environment is an industrial kitchen in a remote camp.

Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, and using hands and arms extensively. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., perform physical tasks like stooping, kneeling, squatting, and climbing stairs, often while carrying weight.
