UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks a Scheduling Specialist to arrange patient procedures across hospital and surgical facilities. You will gather required information from surgeons, coordinate with departments, and secure pre-certifications to ensure correct coverage and billing.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2 years in a medical office, with exposure to billing, coding, and patient access.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of experience in a medical office environment.
• Exposure to physician billing, medical collections, coding and surgery scheduling and/or patient access.
• Preferred: 2 years of college.
• 1 year of healthcare scheduling experience.

Responsibilities

• Schedules patient surgical procedures at University Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
• Obtains necessary information from surgeons and coordinates with departments.
• Provides pre-certification for procedures to ensure coverage and proper billing.
• Obtain insurance pre-certification from referring physicians and contact carriers when needed.
• Advise clinic/patients on co-payment or co-insurance responsibility.
• Enter scheduling, insurance and registration data accurately into systems.
• Maintain surgical block time and notify surgeon of unused slots.
• Coordinate tissue requests with Tissue Bank/Transplant Services as needed.
• Ensure timely delivery of required materials/equipment for surgery.
• Research payment denials and liaise with staff for coordinated care.
• Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality policies.
