Job summary

Toole Design is seeking an experienced transportation professional to lead its integrated transportation engineering and multimodal planning practice in Oakland, CA. This leadership role combines practice leadership with active project delivery and reports to the Engineering Director.

You will guide business development, shape technical direction, and stay active on major projects, mentoring engineers and planners to advance the practice and client relationships.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of transportation engineering and multimodal planning experience.
• Track record leading integrated teams and growing a transportation practice.
• PE preferred; PTOE and/or AICP credentials considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development and practice planning for growth targets.
• Manage project delivery, staffing, quality control, and financial health.
• Collaborate with leadership to set strategy and priorities.
• Recruit and advise hires to support local and firmwide growth.
• Provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance on projects.
• Raise the practice's visibility and contribute to marketing.
• Oversee transportation planning and engineering projects end-to-end.
