Job summary

Georgia-Pacific in Toledo, OR is hiring a Power and Utilities Area Technical Assistant to drive safety, reliability and costs. You will work with operators, shift leaders and superintendents to lead continuous improvement and capital projects, troubleshoot systems, and guide outage planning.

The role requires engineering leadership and experience with boilers, steam, and utility systems in a pulp and paper operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering.
• Experience with recovery boiler, power boiler, steam generation, turbine, recausticizing, lime kiln, evaporator, or utility systems in a pulp and paper operation.
• Experience using process historian data, DCS graphics and trends, or statistical tools to troubleshoot process variation and equipment performance.

Responsibilities

• Drive a culture of safety and environmental excellence through hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with operators, shift leaders and Superintendents to meet business objectives and influence continuous improvement.
• Lead safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives and projects that add value to the operation.
• Lead outage planning and execution for cycle and routine outages; participate in annual outages.
• Assist in capital project development involving process improvements to document and optimize efforts.
• Troubleshoot Power, Utilities, Recovery, and Causticizing systems using data and field observations to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Partner with various teams to resolve chronic equipment and process issues involving boilers, steam systems, turbines, and process controls.
• Support outage scope development by identifying technical priorities and ensuring risks are addressed before restart.
• Lead or participate in root cause analyses and management of change reviews related to safety, reliability, quality, and cost.
