Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Pulp Mill Technical Assistant at our Toledo, OR site. This role provides technical leadership for process improvement, equipment reliability, and maintenance prioritization, partnering with operators, maintenance, and engineering to enhance safety, production, and quality.

The position emphasizes coaching operators, driving value through cost improvements, and supporting disciplined operations with standard work across crews.

Qualifications

• Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, or military environment.
• Associates Degree or higher in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Experience coaching and mentoring employees to improve their knowledge and skills, as well as performance.
• Working knowledge of paper machine operation.
• Experience communicating (written and orally), and presenting to individual contributors to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement process, reliability, and cost improvement opportunities that create superior value for the mill, employees, customers, and community.
• Use knowledge, data, and field engagement to diagnose gaps, understand root causes, compare alternatives, and recommend actions that improve long-term results.
• Support maintenance planning, outage execution, and asset reliability efforts by aligning priorities to value at stake, risk reduction, and sustainable equipment performance.
• Develop and maintain operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training materials that help crews apply principles, build capability, and make better decisions.
• Coach and train operators to improve knowledge, judgment, ownership, and contribution, helping employees self-actualize and strengthen comparative advantage.
• Lead or support continuous improvement and capital projects with a principled entrepreneurship mindset: challenge current practices, seek better methods, and learn from results.
• Communicate clearly with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to create shared understanding, remove barriers, and drive mutual benefit across work groups.
