Job summary

The City of Independence is seeking a Power Engineering Manager to oversee the design and planning of the City’s electric transmission, distribution and production systems.

This senior role leads staff, coordinates with multiple divisions, manages budgets and CIP, and ensures compliance with NERC standards and city policies.

The ideal candidate holds a BSEE (ABET-accredited) with 12–15 years in power engineering and a Missouri-licensed PE.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an ABET-accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in power system engineering (BSEE).
• 15 years’ experience in electrical power systems engineering; or 12 years with a Master’s in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Missouri within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design and planning of the City’s electric transmission, distribution and production systems.
• Provide supervision to Engineering staff and direct work assignments.
• Develop programs and project requirements to achieve division goals and objectives.
• Manage engineering budgets, CIP planning, and related performance metrics.
• Coordinate with System Operations and other divisions to align goals.
• Maintain familiarity with NERC Standards and ensure compliant design and operation.
