Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Full-Time Electrical Engineering (ESSP) Intern to join the Power and Energy team in Ann Arbor, MI, with consideration for Maitland, FL; Indian Land, SC; Freeport, ME; or Syracuse, NY. This 12-week Summer Internship starts May 17, 2027, offering hands-on experience alongside senior staff.

You will assist in electrical studies, develop and troubleshoot SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients, gaining exposure to generation through distribution power systems.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with anticipated graduation August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Interest in electrical engineering, consulting, electric utilities, or related field.
• Interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Able to take direction from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Proven safety awareness and ability to follow company policies.
• Willing to travel occasionally and work in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment.
• Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering.
• Assist with protective relaying, including short circuit analysis and relay settings.
• Support power system planning studies such as power flow and voltage stability.
• Contribute to infrastructure design studies like substation grounding and power quality analysis.
• Design and configure networking for SCADA and protection systems; assist with on-site commissioning.
• Develop logic and control schemes for power system equipment and field testing.
• Prepare data acquisition systems and develop HMI screens.
