Job summary

Caterpillar seeks a Power Systems Engineer I to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, both independently and with teams, from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities include retrofitting, programming, testing, and training, with travel 35-50% from a remote U.S. base. A BSEE/BSEET or equivalent experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience with automation and controls including PLC-based systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD designers for wiring/assembly drawings.
• Provide technical support and escalation assistance.
• Prepare project documentation and reports.
• Train technicians and customers on maintenance and operation.
