Job summary

Xcel Energy invites motivated students to join their engineering internship program in the Texas region. You'll work with the Engineering staff on testing, commissioning, and analysis of substation projects, gaining practical field experience and mentorship.

Responsibilities include power system analysis, lab relay testing, field visits, and documenting commissioning activities, with a May 2027 start date possible depending on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

• Current student, Freshman or higher.
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
• Travel to project sites within the service area to observe commissioning activities.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with daily tasks that include the following.
• Commissioning test plan creation.
• Power system analysis using software tools.
• Work in lab running various relay tests.
• Field visits with engineers to learn commissioning practices.
• Commissioning documentation management.
