Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a forward-thinking Engineering Intern to support testing and commissioning of substation additions and modifications. You will work with the Engineering staff on protection and control tasks, including modeling, short-circuit studies, and regulatory-compliance analyses.

As an intern, you’ll gain practical field experience, mentoring, and exposure to real-world energy systems while contributing to both capital projects and operations.

Qualifications

• Currently a student pursuing a degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
• Enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).
• Willing to travel to project sites within the service area.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with daily tasks related to commissioning and testing.
• Create commissioning test plans.
• Perform power system analysis using software tools.
• Conduct lab relay tests and field visits with engineers.
• Manage commissioning documentation.
