Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a summer internship for engineering students to support the Electric Area Engineering team. You will gain practical experience in distribution system analysis, outage metrics, and project planning while working with area engineers and project managers.

The program emphasizes mentoring, hands‑on learning, and developing professional skills in a real utility setting with a May 31, 2027 start date and potential extension based on performance.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027) pursuing an Engineering degree (ABET accredited).
• Interest in electric power systems and utility operations is preferred.
• Willingness to work full-time during summer and part-time during school year.
• Strong academic performance preferred (3.0 GPA or higher).

Responsibilities

• Assist with distribution system analysis and feeder performance evaluations.
• Review outage data and reliability metrics to identify trends.
• Prepare and support project planning & execution submittals.
• Analyze power quality measurements and assist engineers with documentation.
