Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Power Controls Engineer to support the design and integration of control systems for electric power infrastructure. The role focuses on SCADA, substation automation, and communication networks, working with engineers across disciplines to ensure secure, reliable operation.

PE license preferred; occasional travel may be required. Collaborate with substation, transmission, and distribution teams to optimize performance and resilience of power

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in power system controls, substation automation, or SCADA.
• Experience with substation or transmission projects and power system communications.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA, protective relaying, and utility operations.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design SCADA, substation automation, and power system communication architectures.
• Develop control and monitoring schemes coordinating substations, transmission systems, and operations centers.
• Support integration of field devices: IEDs, RTUs, PLCs, protective relays.
• Assist with commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting control systems.
• Coordinate with utilities and IT/OT on interfaces and data exchange.
• Prepare technical deliverables: schematics, wiring diagrams, and network diagrams.
