Job summary

Crowley is seeking a Director of Port/Terminal Operations for the San Juan port to provide strategic leadership over marine stevedoring, yard operations, security, engineering support and vessel scheduling. The role drives safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective cargo movement while aligning with the terminal leadership team.

The position requires 5–10 years in operations with 3–5 years in a supervisory role, a bachelor’s degree, and strong budgeting skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, business, transportation or related field; or a combination of post-high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
• 5-10 years related operations experience; 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management position.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily terminal operations, including stevedoring, yard operations, security, vessel scheduling, and engineering support.
• Coordinate with vessel operations, terminal teams, and other departments to ensure efficient cargo movement and operational performance.
• Manage maintenance and repair activities to support equipment reliability and operational readiness.
• Develop and implement operating standards, procedures, and performance goals for terminal and vessel operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements (OSHA, PROSHA, EPA, EQB, USCG, DOT, ISO).
• Support safety, quality, and damage prevention initiatives throughout terminal operations.
• Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and employees while administering company policies and collective bargaining agreements.
• Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and development of managers, supervisors, and union employees.
• Directly supervise three managers, eleven supervisors, and over 200 union employees.
• Manage an annual operating budget exceeding $30 million; monitor expenses, forecast, and report variances.
• Review and approve operational expenditures per Crowley policies and controls.
• Collaborate with Terminal leadership to improve efficiency and service levels.
