Job description

Polysomnographic Technician, Sleep Lab Technician

Primary Function: Performs duties as a Sleep Lab Technician, scores sleep recordings, and prepares data for physician interpretation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs duties of a Sleep Lab Technician and evaluates PSG and MSLT recordings. Generates computerized PSG reports.
  2. Interprets raw data: scores polysomnograms for sleep stages using standardized criteria, computes parameters such as sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and sleep stage percentages, and analyzes apneas and arousals (muscle and spontaneous).
  3. Determines heart rate ranges for waking and sleeping stages. Identifies and quantifies abnormalities in cardiac activity and respiration. Recognizes normal/abnormal patterns, artifacts, and sleep/wake stages.
  4. Assists with marketing the sleep lab to the community and staff physicians.
  5. Provides information to medical staff regarding test capabilities and requirements to enhance understanding of polysomnographic testing.
  6. Provides in-service education to sleep lab staff.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Requirements: Vocational/technical training and at least one year of relevant experience or equivalent are required.
