Job summary

ALO seeks an Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering to lead teams building and operating core platforms, cloud infrastructure, and developer tooling powering a high-scale ecommerce ecosystem.

This role blends technical leadership with people management and cross-functional collaboration, shaping platform strategy, guiding architectural decisions, and enabling teams to deliver reliable systems safely and efficiently. Hands-on engagement will stay close to ongoing challenges.

Qualifications

• 7+ Years of software engineering experience focusing on platform, infrastructure, or DevOps.
• 3+ years in engineering management or technical leadership.
• 7+ years with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar).
• Experience with distributed systems, containerization, orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code.
• Experience owning or supporting CI/CD pipelines and automation.
• Ability to lead architectural discussions and make data-informed decisions.
• Strong cross-team collaboration and communication skills.
• Experience with high-scale or consumer-facing platforms.
• Background in Java/JVM-based systems and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with multi-region or multi-cloud environments.
• Familiarity with open-source ecosystems and developer tooling.
• Knowledge of observability and reliability practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the platform engineering strategy with multi-quarter roadmaps aligned with product priorities.
• Lead cloud and infrastructure engineering including compute, networking, storage, and IaC with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
• Guide platform architecture and critical technical decisions for resilience and maintainability.
• Own DevOps and CI/CD practices, improving build, test, deployment, and release workflows through automation.
• Identify and resolve systemic platform risks to protect reliability and security.
• Build and maintain shared platforms and developer tooling for scalable operations.
• Strengthen observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and application teams on priorities and dependencies.
• Mentor cross-functional teams and foster an inclusive culture that supports growth.
• Participate in hiring and team development to sustain engineering excellence.
