Job summary

MedStar Health in Washington, DC is seeking a perioperative scheduling specialist to manage the scheduling of elective surgical procedures and assist in preparing perioperative schedules. You will ensure surgeon preferences and patient needs align with available OR resources and serve as the frontline contact for physician offices.

Key duties include data entry, coordinating with care teams, and maintaining accurate schedules.

Qualifications

Excellent customer service skills.
Problem-solving skills based on written departmental guidelines and criteria.
Data entry skills.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Schedules all elective surgical procedures and prepares perioperative schedules.
Ensures surgeon preferences and patients' needs match available OR resources by accurate scheduling.
Functions as frontline contact for physicians' offices and exhibits customer service skills.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality while using computer systems for data entry and scheduling.
Communicates with physician offices, patient care coordinators, and ancillary staff to schedule surgical cases.
Verifies times, procedures, physician availability, and X-ray/old charts before duplication and distribution of the schedule.
Participates in quality and service improvement efforts within perioperative services.
