Job summary

Qualifications

• Active state licensure as paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program or medical school.
• Foreign medical degree accepted only if currently licensed or certified as an EMT in the state.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a health care environment or clinical exposure.
• Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
• Ability to perform and analyze a physical assessment (heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use).
• Ability to instruct donors, staff and community regarding plasma donation benefits.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures.
• Administer and supervise approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations.
• Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff.
• Promote positive donor relations.
• Conduct confidential interviews to assess donor suitability.
• Respond to medically related questions with Center Medical Director/Physician.
• Review test results to determine donor suitability and follow SOPs.
• Notify and counsel donors about reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
• Explain informed consent to donor applicants and obtain consent.
• Handle medical emergencies per SOPs and maintain emergency kits.
• Maintain confidentiality of donor information and data entry in the electronic management system.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure supplies; follow HSE/OSHA policies.
• May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
