Job summary

Qualifications

• Active state licensure from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program or medical school required.
• Completion of a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school and only if also licensed as a physician or EMT in the state.
• Minimum of one year experience in a health care environment or one year of clinical experience from a vocational or nursing institution.
• Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
• Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
• Ability to instruct donors, staff and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures.
• Administration and supervision of approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations.
• Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medications per licensure.
• Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
• Conduct confidential interviews with donors to determine donor suitability.
• Collaborate with Center Medical Director/Physician to address medically related inquiries from staff.
• Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors.
• Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
• Explain informed consent, procedures, hazards, vaccines, and obtain signatures.
• Handle medical emergencies; check emergency kits; escalate as needed.
• Review test results to determine continued donor suitability; manage four-month approvals.
• Assess signs that donor cannot continue donating.
• Manage hepatitis B and influenza immunization program.
• Oversee donor immunization programs and review antibody titers as required.
• Record donor data accurately in the electronic donor information system.
• Maintain clean work environment and enforce HSE/OSHA policies; conduct routine audits.
• Maintain donor confidentiality.
• May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education
