Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Encouraged for eligible non-citizens; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
- Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
- Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completed approved residency in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs or equivalent are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Experience: Qualified to perform duties as a physician, having completed residency or equivalent experience.
- Preferred Experience: Board eligible or certified.
- Physical Requirements: Must perform physical activities such as reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and moving patients and equipment as described.
Duties
- This position offers a sign-on bonus (up to 15% of salary per year for up to four years), participation in EDRP (up to $200,000 for qualifying loans), and assistance with moving expenses to Wilkes-Barre, PA. Salary may exceed listed maximum if performance metrics are met.
- Provide consultative services for cardiology referrals, manage a broad range of cardiovascular diseases, interpret diagnostic tests, and apply relevant guidelines.
- Collaborate with cardiology PA-Cs, participate in fellowship programs, attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform peer reviews.
- Activities include face-to-face and VVC/CVT care, with other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine at Wilkes-Barre VA.
