Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) encourages eligible non-citizens to apply. Non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, according to VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or D.C.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the VA Secretary.
  • Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Experience: Must qualify to perform duties as a physician, having completed an accredited residency and/or possessing experience enabling independent practice.
Physical Requirements

Includes frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting equipment or patients, maintaining an upright position, moving about, and lifting objects during patient care activities.

Duties
  • Provide consultative services for cardiology referrals in outpatient settings, managing conditions like heart failure, chest pain, coronary artery disease, etc.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, EKGs, ambulatory monitors, and stress tests, applying relevant guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cardiology PA-Cs, participate in fellowship programs, attend meetings, serve on committees, perform chart reviews, and other duties as assigned.
  • Offer services via face-to-face and VVC/CVT modalities.
  • This position offers a sign-on bonus (up to 15% annually for up to four years), EDRP, relocation assistance, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement benefits, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, malpractice coverage, and a work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, with rotating on-call duties.
