Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago seeks a professional Auditor & Educator to review EMR documentation for coding accuracy and compliance. You will work with clinical providers to identify opportunities to optimize coding and strengthen revenue integrity, including CPT, ICD-10, and modifier usage.

The role requires an associates degree in health information management or related field, CPC/CCS-P certification, and 3 years of coding experience with a strong regulatory knowledge base.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in health information management or related field, or 3 years of relevant experience.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS-P certification.
• RHIA or RHIT certification with physician-based coding experience considered if CPC/CCS-P acquired within 6 months.
• Three years of E/M and/or surgical coding experience.
• Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific regulations for documentation, coding and billing.
• Strong analytical skills to identify non-conformances in CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS coding.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, schedules, and performs reviews of professional services and documentation by providers.
• Evaluates clinical documentation to identify inconsistencies affecting reimbursement and denials.
• Reviews charge information and insurance correspondence for accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepares audit findings and reports for leadership and providers.
• Develops educational materials and training for providers and coders.
• Educates on CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers based on supporting documentation and EMR charge capture.
• Acts as liaison for coding inquiries and supporting collaboration with clinical and IT teams.
• Assists in corrective action plans and compliance investigations as needed.
