Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or higher level of education.
• Phlebotomy Training Program, Medical Assistant Training Program or six (6) months experience performing phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of coding, basic math, and payer/insurance benefits is preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general office related equipment, such as a fax or copier is preferred.
• Medical terminology and specimen knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy using various techniques for inpatients and outpatients.
• Enter orders and collection information into LIS accurately.
• Identify patients and specimens using two identifiers.
• Follow department protocols for blood collection and post-venipuncture care.
• Procure and process specimens and assist with other collections as required.
• Handle urine drug screens and tests for legal alcohols per protocol.
• Prepare samples for transport and ensure safe packaging.
• Maintain orderly supply levels and rotate stock as needed.
• Interact professionally with providers, staff, and patients to ensure quality service.
