Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a phlebotomist to perform patient registration, specimen collection and labeling, and ensure specimen integrity. The role requires proficiency with HIS and LIS systems, independent work, and strong patient communication.

The position involves obtaining specimens, following safety protocols, and handling various sample types while collaborating with supervisors and clinical staff to ensure timely lab results.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy course or previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, CNA or MA helpful.

Responsibilities

• Proficient with HIS and LIS to release orders or register patients.
• Performs phlebotomy on patient population and obtain blood specimens.
• Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and label specimens correctly.
• Perform sample collection procedures including various swabs, urine, and blood tests as required.
• Follow safety protocols and infection control practices at all times.
• Call critical results to the appropriate licensed caregiver and document reports.
