Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to draw blood by venipuncture or capillary methods for clinical testing. You will screen and process specimens, transport materials to the correct departments, and handle inquiries about results and statuses.

Professional communication with patients and staff is essential. Required: high school diploma or equivalent, graduation from an accredited Phlebotomy Program, and CPT certification (CA DPH).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• 1 year of phlebotomy experience in an acute care setting preferred.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH) required.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods for testing.
• Receive and screen specimens for acceptability per guidelines.
• Deliver blood products to Surgery and specimens to appropriate lab sections.
• Process, distribute or package all specimens (excluding Anatomic Pathology).
• Handle inquiries regarding lab results, specimen status, and department information.
• Communicate professionally with patients, coworkers, and visitors with appropriate age consideration.
• Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.
• Perform additional clinical and clerical duties as needed.
